“Who else would like an an endless supply of FREE traffic for your website, would like to elevate your status to a 'guru' and keep your bank account full? …” Quite frankly if I would have read this headline 6 months ago, I would have been skeptical about such wild claims. It seems to fit in the "it's too good to be true" category. But then I tried it and was shocked to discover how easy it was to build links and traffic to my websites. The steps are so easy to follow it almost seems automatic. I've been creating websites since 1993. I've created 100's of them for companies of all sizes from Fortune 500 companies down to one and two person companies. I was never concerned about whether or not they made money because I was paid to create them, not to make them successful. Several years ago I looked back at the lack of success from most of these sites and decided I was going to unravel the mystery of making money on the Internet. I felt if I could do that I could help all of my clients succeed as well as myself. Paid Traffic I learned about pay per click advertising like Google Adwords and fell in love with it. Within minutes I could create a Google Adwords campaign and start generating traffic. With some keywords, it wasn't unusual to have 100 visitors in just a couple of minutes. When banner ads first came out they were both cheap and very effective. The first statistics I saw showed a 30% click thru rate...their effectiveness quickly dropped to less than 1%. Then animated GIF banners came out and click thru rates climbed past 30% in many cases. This quickly declined to what regular banners were experiencing. The big problem with pay per click and other advertising models is that it costs money to get quick traffic and they are often NON-BUYERS when they show up at your website. So you can spend more money that you make. The good news is you can test various ideas and get quick results so improving the site can be done quite rapidly for some keywords. Free Traffic Getting free traffic from search engine optimization is wonderful but takes a lot of time (generally 6 months or more) and you have to keep changing things because of regular "improvements" in search engine formulas used to determine which sites should be displayed first. Article Marketing Recently I started hearing rumors of article marketing, where you could write an article, promote it and get free search engine traffic. I started studying it, talking to people who were writing articles for their sites and testing it myself. It works. Writing articles for the purpose of marketing your products or services is called article marketing. It is something that can be learned, applied to your business and used to generate a steady stream of traffic plus build your reputation as a guru. Effectiveness for Conversions One of the best kept secrets about article marketing is how effective it is. There have been many tests comparing the percentage that buy when coming from and ad and the percentage that buy when coming from an article. Article based traffic is as much as 700% more effective than ad based traffic. The reason, when a visitor comes from an ad, they don't know anything about you or what you are trying to sell, so they put up their sales resistance. When a person reads your article and then goes to the trouble of clicking the link in your "about the author" section, they already know you, they know what you suggest and they are looking for more information and solutions from you. They are much more open to what you have to offer since they are pre-sold before they arrive.
